Owl Class had a very special trip this week as part of our World War I topic. We began at the Keyworth War Memorial, where we explored its features and discussed why memorials are so important. The children worked together to identify the names of the brave individuals from Keyworth who lost their lives fighting for our country. After this, we took time to complete a detailed field sketch of the area, thinking carefully about the shapes and details we could see.
Next, we walked to Keyworth Church to learn more about how the war impacted our local community. Inside the church, we looked closely at the memorials and discovered fascinating stories about the people remembered there. One of the most moving moments was visiting the grave of a World War I soldier. The children paid their respects quietly and reflected on the sacrifices made over 100 years ago.
It was a thoughtful and meaningful day, helping us to understand the importance of remembrance and the impact of the war on our village. Well done, Owl Class, for showing such respect and curiosity throughout the trip!
