Hello Robins!
Welcome to your first Year 1 blog. We hope you have had a great summer and are ready to come back to school tomorrow.
The Year 1 staff team are: Mrs Jones and Mrs Morgan. We also have a trainee teacher who will be with us some days and for part of the year – Miss Turnbull. She doesn’t start until next week but we know that you will welcome her warmly. We also have Mrs Spencer in some mornings.
There will be a homework pack that comes home tomorrow with 6 weeks of spellings. These are one a week for the half term and we will do a weekly blog to let you know which words we are working on. We have found it easier to share these for the whole half term instead of you receiving odd pieces of paper that are easily lost! There is also a topic homework in that pack and we would like children to choose just one piece from the ‘menu’ to complete and then bring that in for our last topic lesson on Wednesday 15th October.
Tomorrow, we will have a very typical morning with maths, phonics and English. In the afternoon the children will have PE and forest schools. Please send kit in for those as well as usual lunch box / snack and water bottle (water only, no squash). All children have their own number which is used for carpet spots, lining up, coat pegs and their boxes in the cloakroom so kit can be safely stored there. If children take of their fleeces or cardigans, we always remind them to keep them in their boxes for ease of finding. Please say goodbye to your child at the door so that they can come in and settle to the new routines. This week, both Mrs Morgan and I will be there every day but usually it is myself (Mrs Jones) Monday to Wednesday and then Mrs Morgan Thursday and Friday. Please leave toys at home – even small tray toys have a habit of getting lost so we would rather they stay safe at home.
We usually swap books on a Monday and Thursday but this week you will just receive books on Thursday only. We ask you to read daily, if possible, and we ask for books to be returned each week on Monday and Thursday as well.
We have lots more information to share with you and we hope you can meet us at our Base One open evening on Tuesday 9th September at 5pm where we can tell you more about Year 1. You can also ask us any questions you have about the year ahead.
Please find attached all your key information for this half term:
*Knowledge Organiser for our new topic about Keyworth (the history of Keyworth)
*Knowledge Organiser for science (outlining what we will be learning about in science this half term)
*KIRFS (this document is a maths information sheet outlining learning for the next half term)
*Curriculum map (this gives you coverage for every subject for the half term ahead). Please note: we are waiting to confirm a trip to the Framework Knitter’s Museum and also a DT date where we like to ask parents for help – we will update you when these are confirmed, thanks!
*Homework for this half term linking to topic (a paper copy will come home tomorrow as well – please return this on Wednesday 15th October so that children can share this with the class)
*We also use doodle maths and doodle spell in Year 1. These are separate apps but both very accessible and great for helping to learn key maths and spelling, respectively. You will find a QR code as well as a login / password for these. Doodle maths is available immediately but Doodle Spell will be ready from next Monday when we begin teaching our Year 1 spelling words (spelling homework for week 1 begins next week).
We are very much looking forward to working with you and your children this year. See you in the morning!
