Welcome to Our Class!

A very warm welcome to all of our children and families joining us this year!

We are delighted to be welcoming your child into our class and are looking forward to working closely with you throughout the year. Starting a new school year is always an exciting time, and we feel privileged to be part of your child’s learning journey. Together, we will support them as they grow in confidence, develop new skills, and create lots of wonderful memories.

We would like to invite you to our Welcome Meeting on Tuesday 8th September at 5pm, where we will share key information about the year ahead and answer any questions you may have. We are really looking forward to meeting you all there.

To help you prepare for the first half term, we have attached a number of useful documents:

Curriculum Overview

This document outlines the topics and learning that we will be covering during the next half term. We will share a Key Information Blog like this at the start of each half term so that you can stay up to date with your child’s learning and any important class information.

Spelling Overview

Also attached is our spelling overview. Each week, children will learn 10 new spelling words during our spelling sessions. These words are mainly linked to phonics and build upon the learning that takes place in our daily phonics lessons.

We use Doodle as our main spelling homework platform, and login details and passwords will be shared with families in September.

Homework Expectations

Each week, we ask children to:

  • Complete their assigned Doodle Maths and Spelling activities.
  • Answer a small number of additional questions on the platform.

Regular practice little and often helps children to:

  • Build confidence with key mathematical skills.
  • Improve fluency and recall of important number facts.
  • Identify and address gaps in understanding.
  • Develop positive learning habits and independence.

Just a few minutes of regular practice can make a big difference to children’s progress over time.

Science Knowledge Organiser

We have also attached a Science Knowledge Organiser so that you can see what we will be learning in science this half term. This provides an overview of the key knowledge and vocabulary that children will be developing throughout the topic.

Thank you for your support as we work together to help your child have a happy, successful, and enjoyable year at school.

Best wishes,

Mrs Jones and Mrs Rowe
