Hello,
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of our first half term!
What a fantastic start to the year it’s been. We’ve absolutely loved getting to know your wonderful children and watching them settle into school life with such enthusiasm and positivity.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve packed in so many exciting experiences—from hands-on DT days where creativity flourished, to our brilliant school trip that sparked curiosity and adventure. We’ve also launched brand new topics that have inspired some fantastic learning and lively discussions in the classroom.
A huge well done to your fabulous children for their hard work, resilience, and eagerness to learn. They’ve made a brilliant start, and we couldn’t be prouder of all they’ve achieved already.
We’re looking forward to an equally exciting second half of the term with Christmas at the end of it!
*Please remember that we have our topic showcase lesson on Wednesday this week – this is when topic homework should come in and children can talk about what they have done at home.
Last week I sent out emails with details of your child’s progress in phonics and reading. Please check you have had that. It provides an update on your child’s progress from their phonics assessment. Included are links to videos to support at home with some of the areas your child needs to work on. We hope you have found it useful. We will be able to talk more about this at our open evening this week.
Phonics and reading: Please continue to return books either on a Monday or Thursday and we will send the next books home on those days, too. If you have the Set 2 & 3 RWI cards at home, please note, we have worked out way through all the cards with the orange top at home. You should continue to show these to your child regularly to help them remember them. Please expect new books for the holidays to help keep you going!
Maths: Please encourage your child to login to doodle maths and to stay in the ‘green zone’ by completing assignments set and doing their ‘5 a day’. We are top of the school again this week for doodle maths (and 2nd place for doodle spell!). Please try to keep logging on over the holidays for a few minutes each day. It makes a huge difference to your child!
Spelling: Week 6 /v/ sound spelt as ‘v’ at the beginning of words and ‘ve’ at the end of words. Our words are: van, vet, visit, have, live, give, love, glove, above, nerve. Please use the spelling sheet for this and also log in to doodlespell where the words will be as an assignment from Monday. This is a great recap for phonics as well as all children should be able to read these words and spell them now.
See you tomorrow, Mrs Jones.
