We had a fantastic day at Beaumanor Hall, as we explored life for the children alive during World War II. We started our day by being evacuated from Keyworth on our bus off to Beaumanor. When we arrived, we made sure that we had our evacuee labels on and that we were showing our best manners to the billeting officer, Corinne, who took us around for the day. We experienced life in the school room, planned a shopping trip with our ration books, did some coding in the famous coding shed and then felt what it would have been like during an aerial bombing attack by heading into the air raid shelter in the centre of the hall. We learnt lots of interesting facts to answer our historical enquiry question of “how did WWII impact Britain”, explored artefacts carefully and empathised with people alive at the time.
