Hello,

I hope you’ve enjoyed this very sunny start to the weekend and continue to do so as we head into a new week.

*Book swaps will be on Monday and Thursday, as usual. We are now practising more alien words each day in preparation for our phonics screening check in June. I’ve sent home a few different practice sheets which I hope you’ve found helpful.

We also have our next phonics assessment coming up before half-term. Some children have now completed yellow books and are ready to move on, but we would like to check each child’s fluency, accuracy and understanding before we do so.  We will ensure each child has two books on Monday and Thursday which suit where they are so please bear with us while we assess everyone and see where they are all up to. We will update you when these are complete to help direct you with tips for the next half-term. We are super pleased with how the children are progressing; thank you for supporting with reading at home.

*Try to encourage your child with doodle daily and their set assignments. Short, regular work on these maths skills will help your child to feel confident with maths.

*Spelling words: /aw/ and /au/ – saw, draw, yawn, crawl, claw, author, August, dinosaur, astronaut, your*. ‘Your’ is included in this listed because it sounds the same but the spelling is different. Children know this as a ‘red’ word which you cannot Fred! Please use your spelling activity sheet and spelling shed to get to know these words really well for both spelling and reading.

See you on Monday.

Mrs Jones
