Welcome to our first homework blog!
I wanted to share a little more information about how homework will work in Year 2 this year, so that you know what to expect each week.
Weekly Homework
Homework will be sent home every Tuesday and should be returned to school every Monday.
Each week, your child will have:
1 Maths activity
This will support the maths learning we have been doing in class and give the children an opportunity to practise their skills at home.
1 Spelling activity
The children will practise their weekly spellings at home. They will then have a spelling test every Monday based on these words.
The homework is designed to support and reinforce the children’s learning, rather than to add pressure. Please encourage your child to have a go independently, with support where needed.
Topic Homework
Each half term, the children will also be given a topic homework project linked to our learning in class.
This will be a fun opportunity for the children to be creative and explore our topic in a different way. Unlike the weekly homework, this can be completed at any point throughout the half term, so there is no need to rush!
At the end of each half term, we will hold a Topic Showcase, where the children will have the opportunity to share and celebrate some of the wonderful work they have completed at home.
Doodle Learning
This time around, I will also be sticking your child’s DoodleMaths and DoodleSpell login details into their homework book.
I will be setting Doodle work each week, linked to the learning we have been doing in class. This will give the children another opportunity to practise their skills and build their confidence.
Reading Books
From next week, we will be changing reading books on Mondays and Thursdays.
To help us keep our reading books organised and make sure everyone has access to a good selection of books, we will be keeping a record of which books are taken home and returned.
We would really appreciate your support in making sure reading books and reading records are brought back to school on Mondays and Thursdays, ready to be changed. This will help us to keep our reading collection well stocked and available for all of the children to enjoy.
Thank you so much for your support with homework and reading. These little routines make a huge difference and help the children to become increasingly independent, confident and enthusiastic learners.
