Topic

This week, we have been learning about Autumn. We enjoyed listening to stories about seasonal changes and exploring our school woodlands. The children collected leaves, observed how their colours had changed, and used them to create beautiful leaf prints, autumn paintings and leaf hedgehogs. We also discovered a mini pumpkin patch in our classroom and enjoyed exploring the pumpkins inside and out!

English

With the help of our class parrot, Polly, the children created a new story based on Rosie’s Walk called Hog’s Autumn Scamper. They can now retell the story using actions and words and sequence the main events in the correct order.

Maths

In Maths, we have been exploring the composition of 4. The children investigated different ways to make 4, such as 3 and 1, 2 and 2, and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1.

Phonics

This week, the children learned the letter sounds v, y, w and z. They have also continued practising blending sounds together to read words.

Finally…

The Reception team is incredibly proud of how well the children have settled into school and their hard work this term! We wish all our families a happy and restful half-term break and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 2nd November.
