Year 1 have had a fantastic start to our new Design and Technology topic: Moving Mechanisms!

The children have been exploring how things move and were introduced to two different types of mechanisms: sliders and levers. They enjoyed investigating how each one works and thinking about where they might see them in real life.

To put their new knowledge into practice, the class had great fun creating their own moving dragons. They experimented with sliders and levers to bring their dragons to life, showing some brilliant creativity and problem-solving skills.

We are now moving into the planning stage of our next project. The children are designing a London-themed picture with moving parts, which they are very excited about. They are thinking carefully about how they can include mechanisms to make parts of their picture move.

We are really looking forward to making our final pieces next Friday and can’t wait to share them with you!

Well done, Year 1 – a wonderful start to our new DT unit!
