Year 5 had a fantastic day visiting the National Coal Mining Museum, where we stepped back in time and discovered what life was like for those who worked in the mines many years ago.
In the morning, we took part in a Victorian-themed experience. We met a range of characters from the past who shared fascinating stories about their lives and work underground. The children listened carefully as they learned about the challenges faced by miners and their families during Victorian times. We also had the chance to meet the pit ponies and find out about the important role they played in transporting coal through the mine tunnels.
After lunch, we embarked on an exciting underground tunnel tour. Descending into the mine felt like travelling back in time as we explored the dark tunnels and learned more about the history of coal mining. Our guide helped us imagine what it would have been like to work underground, and the children were full of thoughtful questions throughout the experience.
The trip was a wonderful opportunity to bring our learning to life. Year 5 represented Crossdale brilliantly with their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and curiosity. We were very proud of the way they engaged with the activities and made the most of this memorable experience. Well done, Year 5! ⭐
