Hello,
We hope you have had a lovely week! Here are a few homework activities:
Activity 1: Phonics – Last week we learnt the letters: m a s d t .
Here are 2 video links you can use to support your child learning ‘a’ and ‘d’, as the class found it tricky to tell them apart.

We will also be sending home a set of practice worksheets at the start of the week to support their writing. These are a revisit of the previous week’s learning.
To complete:
A) help your child to read the picture with the letter sound (tracing a finger over the letter helps too!)
B) look at the pictures and identify the sound in the words e.g. mouse, mountain, mirror, moon
C) letter writing practice (please remind your child of good pencil grip skills “pinch, flick and grip”
D) encourage your child to say the sound as they write
Once the pack is completed over the week, please return the completed pack to school the following week for us to be able to give them a well-earned stamp! We will then return the pack to you so that you can see your child’s progress over the coming months 🙂
Here is a quick link as well to purchase the phonics flashcards to help support your child’s learning at home: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/product/read-write-inc-home-phonics-flashcards-9780198386711/
Activity 2: Talk about our star words:
In our Understanding the World lessons last week, we learnt three new star words
- friend
- kind
Please spend a few minutes talking about what these words mean.
You could ask questions such as:
- What makes a good friend? A good friend is someone who…
- How can you show you are being kind when playing with others?
These conversations help children deepen their understanding and learn new vocabulary.
Thank you very much for your support and enjoy your week,
Reception Team
