Kingfishers have had a fantastic week at school and have been extremely busy learning and playing together.
Learning About Friendship
As part of our ‘Me’ topic, this week’s theme has been Friends. We have enjoyed reading lots of stories about friendship and discussing what it means to be a good friend. Together, we explored how to make friends by saying hello or sharing a smile, how to be a good friend by caring and sharing, and how to maintain friendships by being understanding and saying sorry when needed.
The children created special pictures for their friends and made paper dolls to represent themselves and a friend. We also enjoyed playing lots of games together indoors and outdoors.
Handwriting
In handwriting, we have been practising fine and gross motor exercises to help prepare our bodies for writing. We also explored circle and spiral patterns in a variety of creative ways, like using ribbons, string and paintbrushes. The children particularly enjoyed walking, marching, and cycling circles and spirals on the playground too!
Maths and English
This week, Miss Marshall and our maths puppet, Hey, have played some maths games with us and in English we each told a story to Mrs Rodriguez. We have enjoyed counting our lunch register blocks and learning the nursery rhyme ‘Jack and Jill’.
Phonics
In phonics, we have learned our first five sounds: m, a, s, d, and t. Further information and ideas for supporting your child’s learning at home will be included in our weekly homework blog on Monday.
