Hello,

We had a lovely visitor this week join us and tell us all about Australia. Hopefully your child will have remembered lots about Tim talking to us on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks again to Tim for joining us and making this much more real for the children.

A note for the week ahead: The temperature is set to rise again over the next few days. Please ensure your child has suncream already applied and some for topping up during the day as well as a bottle of water and a sun hat.

*PE as normal on Monday and Thursday next week (6th and 9th) so please wear school uniform PE kit for then.

Spellings this week: Week 6 spellings. This week we are learning to spell common exception words. These are words that don’t follow a rule so need be be learnt. There are often ways special ways we can remember them – a bit like ‘was’ can be learnt by remembering ‘Worms And Spiders’ – we will talk about this in Year 1 next week when I teach our spellings on Monday. Our new words are: of, said, was, has, come, one, once, ask, your, is.  Please complete week 6 worksheet of your spelling in the homework pack and login to doodlespell to play some games with those words. We are giving lots of stamps out for children who complete assignments! Well done.

Reading: We are very low on book returns. Each week, children get 2 books each but we only have about 20 of those 50 returned. Please do have a look around at home and ensure these come back to school. We are going to begin a system of checking books out and checking them back in so that we can keep tracks on where they are and we are looking to ask parents to pay for lost books. We really appreciate you supporting us with this.

The children will have new books to take home on Monday and Thursday this week.  Please try to re-read books to help build fluency, speed and understanding. Re-reading the same book 3-5 times is recommended.

We have now completed our final phonics assessments for the year and had a confirmation of the pass mark for the phonics screening check. We will update you in your child’s report which will be with you very shortly.

Maths: We have set some new assignments for you on doodle; please login to doodle and complete your daily quick fire questions. Try to stay in the green zone by logging in every day.

Have a great week!
