  • SPRING 2 KEY INSTANT RECALL FACTS

    Published 21/02/24, by Jennie Morgan

Please find attached the Key Instant Recall Facts for Spring 2. These are a series of maths facts that we would like the children to answer quickly. When children are able to do this it means they can problem solve with greater ease.

This term we have two measurement units which are often best learnt with practical application. Baking is a great way to measure mass which could have a fantastic Easter recipe link. Yummy!

  • Year One Writers

    Published 09/02/24, by Jennie Morgan

Year One have been working really hard this week to write their own independent stories based on our class text, Awongalema. They have thought very carefully about using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and slides from the line when writing.

Today we made our stories into our very own books. We edited our first ideas, illustrated the different parts of our story and presented it all in a special book.

What great work Year One. We are very proud of you.

  • Homework 05/02/24

    Published 04/02/24, by Claire Jones

    Hello,

It is the last week of this half-term, but we still have a busy one ahead! Each day we will be doing some wellbeing activities - things that we can learn and work on as and when needed. Hopefully the children can show you what they have learnt in school and use these techniques at home, too). We will be learning songs, doing some short yoga activities, finger breathing and much, much more! Also, it is our internet safety week. This is always important and something we refer to and teach throughout our ICT but this week we spend additional time talking about staying safe online. It is our last week in school with the chicks and I know the children will be sad to say goodbye to these. They have been very welcome visitors to Year 1 and have really helped with our science topic.

*Your 'special homework' this week is a task for the holidays - try to write a few sentences a few times in the week about some activities you have done. Please try to encourage the children to remember their targets when doing this - they should be able to tell you what we are working on individually.

*Spelling activity this week is linked to week 5 (adding -er and -est to adjectives where there is no change to the root word). Our 10 words are : grander, grandest, fresher, freshest, quicker, quickest, taller, tallest, slower, slowest). These can be found on SpellingShed linked to games and an activity will also come home with you on Tuesday via the homework books.

*Please listen to your child read at least 3 time a week. New books will come home with you on Monday and Thursday.  Please send in any books to be returned on Mondays and Thursdays as well so that we can re-stock our shelves (thank you!). We have also asked the children not to carry water bottles in book bags as we have had a few leaking incidents where books have been water logged and unusable.

*Try to stay in the green zone on doodle by completing your '5 a day' and your assignments. Well done for working hard on doodle, Starling Class - you are amazing!

After the holidays you can look forward to our book fair that is coming to school on Thursday 22nd February. An exciting opportunity to have a look through new book titles. Shortly after that, we have our book week in school (more details to follow!).

Please also keep an eye on the new Spring 2 blog with curriculum, spelling, homework information for the half-term leading up to Easter which is coming soon!

***Following on from our phonic assessments this week, I will be sending home some phonic video links for some children. These will be tailored to each child's gaps and we appreciate you working with us to help keep the children moving with their reading.***
