Spring 2: Key Information

Hi everyone,

Please find attached the curriculum map, knowledge organiser, KIRFS and spelling overview for next half-term.

Key things to note:

- PE will continue to be on a Monday morning and Thursday afternoon.

- There will be no Forest Schools or swimming this half-term.

Spelling Bee:

Next half-term, we will be hosting a Spelling Bee across school. This is a fun competition where children will learn words from the National Curriculum to spell. Children will be tested on these each week and will move through the rounds. We will host the final round in an assembly!

All children will be recognised for taking part, and we want to emphasise that this is a fun way for children to learn the important words that they will use frequently every day in Year 5 and Year 6. We have already learnt quite a few of these words as part of our weekly spellings in Year 5, so this will be a good way to revisit some of these words.

I have attached the list of words to this blog (Spelling Bee Words). We won't be testing children on these words until the second week back after half-term, so there is plenty of time to get practising! Furthermore, children in Year 5 will only be tested on half of these words for the first round. We have split the list horizontally, so children will need to learn the words up to and including the row beginning with 'nuisance'. If children want to, they can learn all the words!

I have also attached a list of fun ways to practice and learn these spellings at home! The key is to practice little and often to ensure they are remembered. Please drop me or Mrs Jones an email after half-term if you have any questions about this.

Times tables homework:

Finally, I sent children home with a times tables task to complete over half-term. Please can this be completed by the first Friday back after half-term (28.2.25). It is really important that children are confident with their times tables as this knowledge is essential for all of our maths learning. Children will be much more confident in maths lessons if their times tables recall is quick and these facts are secure. I have attached the times tables sheet to this blog post in case you need another copy. Please also encourage your children to use TTRS to practice their times tables facts 3-4 times per week! I will be awarding lots of stamps for completed homework.

Most importantly, have a wonderful, restful half-term!

See you soon,

Miss Spencer
