  • Maths lesson: Cha cha slide

    Published 21/06/19, by Claire Jones

Wow, what a lot of fun we had last week in maths learning the cha cha slide!

As well as being a lot of fun, we had learning at the heart. We have been practising using directional and positional vocabulary so this was a great opportunity to reinforce 'left', 'right', 'backwards' and 'side'.

Also, last week we found out about full, half, quarter and three quarter turns so hopefully your child has come home talking enthusiastically about these. We enjoyed playing Simon Says and following instructions.

Here is the link to the video we saw (just in case you want to dust off your trainers and have a go!): https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Cha-Cha+Slide+Original+Version&&view=detail&mid=AF311DC144F0727C42D0AF311DC144F0727C42D0&&FORM=VRDGAR

  • Talent Show - Friday

    Published 04/06/19, by Claire Jones

A lot of Y1 have asked to be involved in the talent show and I can see they have all been practising hard! Tomorrow we will vote using our British Values - democracy - and choose just 3 acts to go through to the finals on Friday. We have discussed how this is the only fair way to do this and all the children will get a vote. The top 3 acts with the most votes will go through to the final at the end of the week. We have linked this to our recent polling days, too, and explained that this is what grown ups do.

I hope nobody is too disappointed tomorrow and this really is the last chance to practise. See you tomorrow!

  • NSPCC Circuits fundraiser

    Published 04/06/19, by Claire Jones

We had a brilliant morning raising money for the NSPCC. Thanks to all of those that sent money in (if you still have sponsership to give us,  then we can still accept it). The children listened well yesterday when a representative from the charity came in to talk to us about these issues.

  • Phonics Screening Test

    Published 21/05/19, by Claire Jones

    Hello all,

We have had a really busy few weeks practising reading all of the sounds we have learnt (basically since starting school!).  We have been playing games, sorting alien and real words, reading lists and doing some small group work. Just to keep things ticking over during the holidays, I am sending some practise words and activities for you to go through with your child. As well as helping your child to prepare for the screening, this is enabling them to revise a whole lot of things they've learnt to aid them to be a better reader. We really appreciate your support and as always, pop in if you have any questions.

The National Phonics Screening for Y1 children will be happening during the week beginning 10th June.

    Mrs Jones.
