Souper DT day in year 5

A fab Food Technology day in Cedar class.

Hello all,

Thank you so much to all grown ups and children for your help and support with DT day yesterday - we had a soup-er day and it ran very smoothie-ly (OK, I will stop with the puns!). Whether you came in to help us, or helped your child pick fruit and vegetables to bring, we appreciate your support - without it, running DT days would not be the same!

Firstly, we used our senses to help us identify some mystery diced fruit and vegetables. We breathed a sigh of relief when it turned out to be a bit of apple, but weren't happy with box 2's raw potato (yuk!).

Next, we prepared our vegetables for our soup and responsibly washed, peeled and chopped our ingredients by ourselves - although the suede required a helping hand from grown ups!

After the break,  we worked in teams to create smoothies with spinach and water. Some os uf loved our creations - others reflected on how we could have made our smoothie taste nicer. However, we all agreed that our food waste should not go to waste - we turned it into compost in the on-site compost bins at Crossdale. We came full-circle with our allotments topic and returned the valuable nutrients to the ground for another harvest next year.

At the very end of the day, we tasted our soup and some of us even had several bowls!

Thank you once again - looking forward to our next DT day,

Miss Rodriguez
