Investigating Temperature!

As part of our science topic on seasonal changes we did an investigation this week that would allow us to observe, measure and predict like scientists.

We practised using scientific equipment and measured the temperature of water using a thermometer.

Then we looked at Antarctica, one of the coldest areas of the world and talked about how the animals stay warm, particularly baby penguins.

We used two hot water bottles as baby penguins and measured their temperature. Then we insulated one with cotton wool penguins and a plastic bag and sat them both outside on ice blocks.

We measured the temperature every hour and watched it drop for both penguins but the one that was huddled and snuggly dropped much slower and is still warm now!
