  • Time Travelling (church trip)

    Published 19/03/24, by Claire Jones

We've had a wonderful afternoon at the church in Keyworth today during mini-time travelling. We did 4 lovely activities to help us understand the Easter story - from a musical Easter parade to learning about serving others with a feast, finding out about Jesus as a King and then learning about prayer.

Thanks once more to our brilliant parent helpers who were very hands on and helped drop and deliver us safely. We really appreciate your time.

    Published 17/03/24, by Claire Jones

    Hello,

Here is your weekly homework / Year 1 reminders blog.

On Tuesday we will be walking to the church with several parent helpers (thank you) to understand more about how Easter is celebrated by Christians. We are all really looking forward to this! Our class assembly is on Friday - we look forward to sharing what we have been learning about in school with you.

*Your 'special homework' this week relates to maths - there will be a short task in your homework books.

*Spelling activity this week is linked to week 5: /oo/ food, pool, moon, soon, zoo, book, took, foot, wood, good. As usual, I will include a spelling activity in homework books and the words are on Spelling Shed for you to play games this week.

*Please listen to your child read at least 3 time a week. New books will come home with you on Monday and Thursday.  Please send in any books to be returned on Mondays and Thursdays as well so that we can re-stock our shelves (thank you!). We have also asked the children not to carry water bottles in book bags as we have had a few leaking incidents where books have been water logged and unusable.

*Try to stay in the green zone on doodle by completing your '5 a day' and your assignments. Well done Starlings - you are frequently top of the charts!

    Hello,

After a super week with our book week, we have science week to look forward to this week! We have a visit from Jenni @ Wild Things, Keyworth to talk to us about hedgehogs and caring for them through the seasons. Please ensure children have their welly boots in school as well as a warm coat on Tuesday - we will be going outside, whatever the weather!

Science week - please ensure that entries for the competition are in by Thursday morning (thanks, and look forward to finding out the results!)

REMINDER: CHURCH trip - Time Travelling - Tuesday 19th March 12:55pm - 3:05pm. Again, thanks for the additional parent support to help with this visit by walking to and from the church in Keyworth and accompanying us - we now have plenty of parents to help.  We will have an early lunch for this and aim to leave Crossdale just before 12:30pm. There is a payment on SchoolMoney for a contribution towards the resources used at the church.

*Your 'special homework' this week will be in homework books and links to our hedgehog themed visit from Tuesday.

*Spelling activity this week is linked to week 4: /yoo/ and /oo/ sounds spelt u-e: June, rule, rude, flute, use, tube, tune, huge, cute, cube. There will be a spelling activity in homework books plus all words will be on Spelling Shed for you to play games to help learn them.

*Please listen to your child read at least 3 time a week and try to stay in the green zone on doodle by completing your '5 a day' and your assignments. Short and frequent returns to learning really helps to consolidate knowledge!

  • Our library visit

    Published 06/03/24, by Claire Jones

We had a great time visiting the library today. The children were so excited all day and it was wonderful to hear them talking about their love of books and the pleasure they take with reading. I hope you enjoy these together over the next few days and evenings.

Books are borrowed for 3 weeks, so please remember to return them in 3 weeks time!

Did you know that you can borrow up to 24 books from the library?!

Huge thanks to our 3 parent helpers for escorting us safely there and back - the children were so well behaved and listened to instructions really well. They were amazing at crossing the roads safely.  We really appreciate your time.

    Hello,

I hope you're all enjoying a great weekend. It is another busy week ahead with book week so I wanted to get in early to talk about what is happening this week. Keep an eye on the blog this week for photos of some of our lovely activities. In Year One we have started Book Club - we do this weekly and rotate the children that we focus on in our discussions around book choice. The children have thoroughly enjoyed it the past few weeks and have talked so much about their favourite books. Over the next few weeks, Mrs Morgan and I will be sprucing up the book corner and we look forward to sharing this with you at the end of the term when you are invited to parents evening.

Huge well done to all the children who have completed their topic homework already. I've been really impressed by the variety and quality of homework. The children are enjoying finding out about Florence Nightingale; thanks for all your support. This week in topic we had a good look at the non-fiction books in our classroom to find out more facts. These are now on our display board and are a very impressive display of knowledge from across the class.

LIBRARY visit - Thank you to all the parents who have said they can help walk us to the library and back. I will email you separately to confirm.  Our trip is on Tuesday 5th March @2:30pm. We will aim to leave school just after 2pm. ALL children must have their LIBRARY cards for this if they wish to borrow a book; without them, they will be unable to take a book home with them. Please send these in either Monday or Tuesday next week and I will carry them to the library and return them back to your child when we return to school to go home with you.

Our dress up as a book character is next Thursday (7th March) and we have lots of other lovely things happening in school to celebrate reading.

CHURCH trip - Time Travelling - Tuesday 19th March 12:55pm - 3:05pm. Again, thanks for the additional parent support to help with this visit by walking to and from the church in Keyworth and accompanying us.  We will have an early lunch for this and aim to leave Crossdale just before 12:30pm. There is a payment on SchoolMoney for a contribution towards the resources used at the church.

*Your 'special homework' this week will be in homework books and returned to you on Tuesday, as usual.

*Spelling activity this week is linked to week 3: split digraphs i-e and o-e. Our ten words this week are: five, ride, like, time, side, home, those, woke, hope, hole.

*Please listen to your child read at least 3 time a week and try to stay in the green zone on doodle by completing your '5 a day' and your assignments. Short and frequent returns to learning really helps to consolidate knowledge!
