We think that Crossdale children's learning in maths is already supported in many ways at home. Just think how many nursery rhymes, songs, stories and games involve the use of numbers and ideas about quantity, order, shape and time.

This mathematical thought is fundamentally important to helping your child learn that maths is something we use every day to help us describe and engage with the world.

We can help our children develop their mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding by involving them in the maths we use in our everyday lives. Think about the opportunities for using and talking about maths that the following activites make available:

  • cooking;
  • shopping;
  • DIY
  • gardening
  • crafts
  • travelling.

NAACE, an educational charity encouraging the use of computers and technology in schools, has got two really useful and comprehensive pages discussing the possibilities for learning in the "everyday maths" in which your child is already immersed.
