Parents are always welcome in the school. We seek an active involvement by parents as a vital part of our school; we are always keen to listen to, consider and use and share the views of parents within our school community. We are keen to build a genuine partnership of children, parents, staff and governors – all working together to build, sustain and develop our outstanding school.
We believe that our relationship with parents should be open and welcoming and we would hope that this is evident from the following aspects of the school’s practice:
Newsletters
We aim to keep all parents well informed about Crossdale via regular newsletters – these are sent home with your children and are also available from this website at this link.
Active Involvement – Invitations
We frequently send out invitations to parents to encourage active involvement in the school’s activities, for example, school productions, assemblies, educational visits or to participate as parent helpers in school with swimming, reading, cookery, the arts, crafts, theme days and extra-curricular activities. We are always grateful for the enthusiastic and valuable support we receive.
Parents’ Open Evenings
Parents are invited to three Parents’ Evenings during the school year – one each term. At these meetings you will have an appointment allowing you and your children’s teachers the opportunity to share information and views about their learning, welfare and development.

Discipline
Children are encouraged, successfully, to develop self-discipline, taking responsibility for their actions and behaviour around school.
Children are asked to observe basic rules which we feel correspond to those which parents would expect their children to follow at home. We actively discourage any form of physical or verbal abuse between children.
We favour a positive approach using praise and rewards to acknowledge and encourage appropriate behaviour and we aim to develop and maintain a calm, friendly, co-operative atmosphere in our school community. In the event of serious misconduct, parents will be contacted and an appropriate line of action will be agreed upon by parents and the Headteacher.
Parent Teacher Association
Our widely supported and community-based parent teacher association is known as Friends of Crossdale. All parents/guardians are automatically members of the association. An enthusiastic committee co-ordinates events and it is always willing to welcome fresh ideas and offers of support.
