Our New Polytunnel!

Polytunnel

Our Crossdale Polytunnel

Very early on a hot sunny day in late May, a small group of enthusiastic staff (and a couple of  slightly less enthusiastic partners) arrived at Crossdale armed with only a few tools, suntan lotion, an instructional video and a very large handbook. Their mission: to build a polytunnel.

To these novice construction workers, the task had seemed a simple one, but as the hours ticked by, the drill bits snapped, and the pages of the booklet blew across the field, only the appearance of Mr McKenna offered any hope of salvation. He appeared just as the male versus female door building competition was hotting up, and was able to offer an invaluable mixture of hammering skills and carpentry advice.

After 10 hours of hard labour,  the great moment of stretching the polythenhpim4235e over the frame arrived. At this point, of course,  the wind picked up and Mr Cresswell was finally able to put to use the garden gnome imitating skills which he had been working on all year.

All in all, it took 7 people a total of 12 hours in the blazing sun to complete this Herculean task. All concerned are now very proud of the vegetable plants that are already thriving in their new environment.

Our most recent action plan for Green Flag status.
