Sun Safety

During the last week of term, children took part in class based sessions focusing on how to keep safe in the sun.  Information about our Sun Safe policy was sent home and we would like to say thank you to everyone who responded to this by returning their reply slip.  We are conscious that we want to keep our children safe in the sun and Mrs Ogilvy has taken a lead on completing the ‘Sun Safe School’ accreditation, which we are pleased to say we have had approved!  You could review what your child has learnt about in school by looking at their booklet with them that they brought home or by listening to the story ‘George the sun safe superstar’ at .

Digital Leaders

Two children from each Equals Trust School have been working together over the past term to create a Digital Leaders Magazine aimed at KS2 children, to promote how to keep safe online.  You can view the magazines which have been uploaded to the News and Updates Blog:

Summer Disco

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to organise and run the summer disco on Friday 14th July and thank you to all of those who came and supported the event. A profit of £470 was raised which goes directly towards supporting the children in school, through the purchasing of equipment and resources as well as support for trips and activities.

We recently blogged information about the kidspass school scheme – information can be found on our News and Updates blog:

Farwell to Mrs Cox, Miss Spencer and Miss Nicholls.

On Friday 21st July we said farewell to three members of the team who are moving on to pastures new!

Although wanting to explore new avenues, Mrs Rachel Cox is keen to come back and do some occasional work at Crossdale, so we know that we’ll see her in school again, but wish her every happiness for the future.

Miss Spencer has worked with us for the past year to complete her TA apprenticeship and she has been a fantastic asset to the school. We wish her all the very best of luck with gaining the results she needs to go on to complete her teacher training at university.

Miss Nicholls has worked in our Year One and Year Two classes over the summer term and as we move into the new academic year, we may well see Miss Nicholls, as we are hoping that she may come back to see us if we ever need supply cover!

As you are aware, the Landlord at the Peartree Pub has given permission for parents to use the car park to help with safe drop-off and pick-ups on the school run. This is something that she has agreed with us to support the school community and we would like to take the opportunity to thank Sally and her team for allowing this to happen. We would like to keep the relationship between the school and the Peartree a positive one, and ask that parents use the car park courteously and respectfully.

Towards the end of term, it was noted by several parents that cars were stopping on the corner of Crossdale Drive and on the line markings outside of the school.  Please could we ask that you don’t stop in these areas, as it can make the roads and paths unsafe for other road users as well as our children approaching or leaving school. We appreciate your support with this.

Roll of honour

A big well done to Rebecca (Year 5) who recently had her story shortlisted in the Evesham Festival of Words Short Story Competition 2017. As part of her prize she got to meet Prue Leith (the new judge from The Great British Bake Off), as well as seeing her story in the print anthology. Also, another one of her stories, which she entered in the New Writers UK Nottingham Creative Writing Competition for Children and Young People 2017, has made it to the final! Considering that Rebecca has recently discovered that she's dyslexic, she and her parents are very proud of these achievements – well done Rebecca!

Well done to Jerome (Year 1) who has completed his Stage 1 swimming. He's now very confident in the water and happy to have moved on to Stage 2 – what fantastic progress!

We are always keen to hear about children's achievements outside of school; if you would like these sharing in the Crossdale News then please email the school office with the subject heading 'Roll of honour'.

Enjoy the holidays!

Good luck to our Year Six pupils as they get ready for their move to secondary school - they have been a fantastic class and strong ambassadors for our Keys to Learning and our Crossdale Way.  Good luck also to the children who are moving to new schools - we hope that you are soon settled and making new friends.

We would like to thank everyone for the continued support this year and wish everyone a very happy and safe summer break.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the start of the new term on Wednesday 6th September.

Best wishes,

Mr Cresswell and Miss Seedhouse

Base 2 Residential

Base 2 children had a fantastic time on their residential in Sheringham and Hunstanton.  Lots of photos were uploaded to the blog during the visit; if you’ve not seen them take a look on the school website!

Meet the Teacher Session

As you know, your child spent the afternoon of Monday 3rd July afternoon with the teacher that they will be with from September 2017.  This is part of our whole school transition process to ensure that children feel happy and comfortable with arrangements for the next academic year.  To supplement the initial ‘meet the teacher’ session, there will be three, twenty-minute story sessions that will take place before the end of term, where your child will be with their new class teacher.  This is again to support all children with their transition to their new class.

If you have any questions about transition, please speak to Miss Seedhouse or your child’s class teacher.

Hopefully you received your child’s reports last Friday (7th July). If you wish to meet with your child's class teacher to discuss anything in the report, please speak to your child’s class teacher to make an appointment at a convenient time.

Keyworth Show

Well done to all of the children who took part in the Keyworth show on Saturday.  It was a fantastic community event and it has been lovely to hear so many positive reflections about the day.

Summer Disco

The PTA have organised a Disco for Friday 14th July, 6-8pm.  Letters were sent out last week, but if this has been misplaced, you’ll be able to find a copy in the News and Updates blog or alternatively, there are some spare paper copies in the school office.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Roll of honour

A big congratulations to all the children from Keyworth School of Theatre Dance who took part in the Cabaret ‘Memories’ this month. They were all AMAZING! Some of them danced again at the Keyworth Show on July 8th.

A big well done to Gracie in Year Five. She achieved a Merit in her Grade 1 Theatre Craft and Tap dance exams. Also this month, Gracie has taken part in 3 football trials for Notts County Under 11’s Football Academy and been signed to play for the club in the 2017/18 season. We join Gracie’s parents in being very proud of her and all her hard work in achieving both.

Louise in Year Six was awarded the managers player of the year at her recent end of season football awards – a fantastic achievement, well done Louise!

Thomas in Year Three ran 6 laps at Runstock, a running festival, totalling 30km – Wow! What a super achievement Thomas – well done!

We are always keen to hear about children's achievements outside of school; if you would like these sharing in the Crossdale News then please email the school office with the subject heading 'Roll of honour'.

Best wishes,

Mr Cresswell and Miss Seedhouse
