Light and Bright Party at Plumtree Church

On Friday afternoon, Tony from St Mary's Church in Plumtree, spoke to the children in assembly about the Light and Bright party that they are hosting (information shown on the poster).

If your child is interested in going to this, they will need to collect a letter from the office to take home and fill in, before returning it to the office.

There are only 30 spaces available and so tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Parents' Evening

Letters should have today come home about parents' evening for the week beginning 6th November.

Please complete the reply slips and return to your child's class teacher at the start of next week.  If you can tick as many boxes as possible to indicate which times you are available, this is incredibly helpful.  We will do our best to allocate a time that is your indicated preference, although this isn't always feasible and we appreciate your understanding with this.

Teachers will be organising times and will return your reply slip to you on Thursday 19th October, indicating the time you have been allocated.

If you have any questions about parents' evening, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Many thanks.

Christmas Card Designs

Your child / children should have brought home (yesterday or today) a Christmas card design that they have worked on in school.  They also have an order form with this.  If you wish to order any of the Christmas gifts using your child's design, please return the order form to school by Wednesday 18th October so that we can send the orders off before half term, in order to get the items back well in advance of Christmas arriving!

Many thanks for your continued support.

Information for Year 1 Parents / Carers

Dear Year 1 parents and carers,

We’re delighted to have Miss Dibley back with us today.  She will be working closely with Mrs Cawthorn until Wednesday to help ensure a smooth transition for your children.

A couple of parents have asked some questions, mainly around reading and phonics; the information below should hopefully answer any queries that you might have:

Reading Information Books (RIB Books):

  • Phonics group record – this shows which phonic group your child is working in and what ‘Read at home’ book colour they should be choosing from. Phonics groups and ‘Read at home’ books are assessed half termly to ensure that your child is reading the correct book and that they are working at the correct level to develop their phonics.
  • ‘Read at home’ book – Reading targets are shown on this page to help you support your child’s reading at home.
  • A ‘Reading Journey’ is placed within the RIB book – this is to fill in at home to show what your child has been reading.
  • Children read daily in school, sometimes as a whole class, sometimes 1:1 with an adult and after half term weekly group reads will be set up. This reading is not documented in your child’s RIB book, but records are kept by the class teacher. If there is anything that your child’s class teacher feels you need to know or that they want to discuss with you, they will write a note or speak to you at the end of the day.

Tricky Trackers (these were sent home last week) - these are a set of words on a laminated sheet which you can read with your child at home. They follow on from the work your child will have done in reception. Your child will also be reading these words in school and when they are ready they will progress on to the next tricky tracker.

Phonics – your child works in a daily phonics group for approximately 25 minutes. These groups are based on the stage that your child is working at. Throughout the week, a sheet may be sent home with a sound on – these are for you to keep at home to practice with your child.

Your child also chooses a ‘swap book’ – this is not the same as their ‘Read at home’ book, it is not targeted at your child’s current reading level. It is a book that they can share with you, purely for enjoyment purposes.

As well as curriculum based work, the teachers have been working with the children on playtime games alongside securing expectations for behaviour, exemplifying the Crossdale Way. We are aware that there has been some play-fighting at break-times and we have addressed this with the children as this is not something that we encourage in school; all of our staff are monitoring playtime's carefully.

I’d like to thank all of our Year One parents and carers for their support this term whilst Miss Dibley has been recovering from her operation.  Mrs Cawthorn, Mrs Payne and Mrs Ward have all worked hard to provide a progressive learning journey for your child and Miss Dibley will now continue this, working closely with Mrs Neale and Mrs Westie.

Finally, if you have any spare time and would like to volunteer to help in school, please speak to Miss Dibley, Mrs Neale or myself – offers of help are always gratefully received!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Kind regards,

Miss Seedhouse

Year 1 Teacher Update

Dear parents / carers,

We were hopeful that Miss Dibley would be back with us from tomorrow (Monday 2nd October), but unfortunately she is not yet well enough to return and therefore won't be in this week.

We are able to maintain the set-up that we have had for the past couple of weeks: Monday – Wednesday Mrs Cawthorn will be with the class, Mrs Payne will be in class on Thursday with Mr Sanders delivering a PE lesson in the afternoon and then Mrs Ward will be with the children on Friday.

We appreciate your understanding and if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
Miss Seedhouse

Favourite Books

Dear Parents

Year one have started to settle in well to their new class over the past few days. It has been lovely to get to know the children better and I look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.

As part of our reading display I would like all the children to bring in their favourite book next week please.

Thank you for your support with this.

Miss Dibley
