Y2 Trip to Beaumanor

Our Year 2 children had an excellent time at Beaumanor on the 12th and 13th June.  They were fantastic ambassadors for the school and took part in a range of different activities – see the blog for photos:  https://beaumanor2017cps.wordpress.com

Wear it Wild Day

Many thanks for your support last Friday on our ‘Wear it Wild’ day.  The day was a huge success, with us raising over £230 for our environmental charity work. We are now in a position to be able to adopt a tiger for each base, and the Eco Council will also review any other environmental adoption schemes that will benefit the rainforest and our learning in school.  Photographs can be seen on the blog: http://www.crossdaleschool.com/cms2014/index.php/easyblog/newsupdates/entry/wear-it-wild-day-2017

Sports Week

The children have enjoyed a fantastic week of sporting activities or health related workshops this week, alongside a super sports day on Wednesday.  Their attitudes to all activities has been excellent and we have had lots of positive feedback from the sports providers about excellent behaviour and sportsmanship. There are some great photos on the blog: https://sportsweek2017.wordpress.com

Keyworth’s Walk of Hope (The 13th Memorial Walk in aid of Cancer Research UK)

When: Wednesday 28th June 2017

Time: 6.30pm for 7pm start

Where: 5km circuit (approx 1 hour walk), anti-clockwise around the Regatta Lake at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont, Adbolton Lane.

Start: at the blue seats by the Boating Lake Club House

Do you know anyone affected by cancer, past or present? Do you want to show your support as an individual, family or group? Are you, yourself a sufferer? Is the Race for Life too formal for you? Do you want to bring a wheelchair, back-carrier or pushchair, take a gentle, contemplative stroll or just walk the dog? If yes, then the Walk of Hope is for you. Totally inclusive, children and adults have, in the past, used ingenious methods to get around the lake eg. skipping, skating, walking backwards, unicycling.

Moira Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer whilst pregnant. Imagine the shock, and the effect on family, friends and the community. She died in November 2004, at the age of 40 after a brave 11 month battle. She was wife to Steve and a working mother to three young girls, aged 6, 4 and 1 at the time - Alice, Emily & Isabel Wong.

Back in 2005, parents at Crossdale Drive Primary School, joined by staff, family, friends and pets, organised the first walk around the lake in Moira’s memory. Since then, community groups, including Keyworth Brownies and Scouts have also taken part in this simple, donation-only event which has raised nearly £10,000 over the years. All the money raised supports Cancer Research Fund UK, the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. They continually find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and are entirely funded by the public. www.cancerresearchuk.org

So dust off those trainers, walking boots, scooters or bikes and join us for the evening. It is an opportunity to reflect and catch up with friends or make new ones. The walk is not just for Moira but for all those carers and sufferers out there. Come rain or shine we will be there. We even provide sweets for those that finish!

Although barriers are now in operation at the country park, the exit barrier will be raised after 6pm, so you won’t need to pay for car parking.

We hope to see you there again this year. Together we can make a difference.

If you can’t make it on the night, you may wish to donate at:

Base 2 Residential

Base 2 children will be heading off on their residential visit on Thursday 29th June to Sheringham.  Information for the visit is available on the website and we will endeavour to upload photos to the blog whilst we are there. Children will return from their residential on Friday 30th June and we will keep you updated on the arrival time via school text.

Meet the Teacher Session

On Monday 3rd July in the afternoon we have our 'meet the teacher' afternoon as part of our planned transition for all children.

Following this, all teachers will be on the playground at 3:30pm, so that parents have the opportunity to say hello to their child’s new teacher if they wish to.  If any parent can’t make this time and wishes to meet their child’s new teacher, please contact the school office to make an appointment.

Teachers for classes from September 2017:

Year 2 – Mrs Westie (Monday - Thursday) and Mrs Payne (Friday)

Year 3 – Miss Jackson

Year 4 – Mr Brierley

Year 5 – Miss Rodriguez

Year 6 – Mr McKenna

Additional transition activities will run throughout this half term to help ensure that your child's transition to their next class is a positive one.

Reminder

3rd & 4th July – SWA Transition Days for Y6 pupils

Thursday 6th July – Music Evening

Friends of Crossdale (PTA)

The next PTA meeting will be on the 4th July 2017 at 6.30pm in the staff room... We would LOVE to see some new members joining – everyone is welcome, please come along!

Crossdale 10k

Volunteers are needed to leaflet all Nottingham park runs between now and 17th September 2017... If you attend any park runs or other race meets we'd really appreciate it if you'd leaflet each car in the car park.

The day before the race, we need volunteers to set up the race track.

Anyone who is available to marshal on the race day (17th September), see or call Will Brown (07801 072270).

If anyone is interested in being a part of the 10k team, the next meeting will be at the Pear Tree pub at 8:30pm on the 23rd July and the following meeting will be on the 3rd September… please do come along!

Guinea pigs

The Friends of Crossdale PTA have bought, and would like to introduce you to our new additions, ‘Sharkey and Nut Brown’, the Crossdale Pets! They live in the open area outside Reception and the children in our reception class have been very keen to get to know them!  Older children throughout the school will soon be meeting them too!

Vegetable patches

The veggie patches are looking fabulous!  The PTA Gardening Team is headed up by Emily and John Gathergood. Emily is running a lunchtime club with children from various classes and in addition to this, children (along with an adult) are welcome to garden in school on a Wednesday after school, 3:30pm until 4.30pm (weather permitting); all tools are provided and we would love to see a massive team every week!

Pear Tree Pub

A big thank you to the Pear Tree Pub for allowing us all to use the car park for our "walk and stride" scheme.  We would like to let you know that they have a facebook page and from this Sunday, they are starting to sell Sundae's every day - adult and children’s sizes - so pop in and have a try! "Every day’s a Sundae"!

Reports

Reports are scheduled to go home on the 7th July. If you wish to meet with your child's class teacher after receiving your child's report, please speak to them to make an appointment at a convenient time.

Parking

Please take care parking when bringing your child to school / collecting them ready to go home.  We have had some reports from residents of a black VW SUV parking on the pavement which has meant that pedestrians have struggled to get past (especially those with pushchairs), and instances where the road access has been compromised and should a larger vehicle need to get past, they would be unable to do so.  Your support with this is appreciated.

Roll of honour

We are always keen to hear about children's achievements outside of school; if you would like these sharing in the Crossdale News then please email the school office with the subject heading 'Roll of honour'.

Best wishes,

Mr Cresswell and Miss Seedhouse

Scaffolding around the school

As part of the work on the new roof, scaffolding has been erected around the school.

To help ensure your child’s safety whilst they are at school, risk assessments have been completed and workers on site are aware of these.

Any time that the children spend outside on the playground will be closely supervised and we are hopeful that we will be able to use the field for playtimes and lunchtimes over the coming weeks, ensuring that the children aren’t near the scaffolding.

The scaffolding has been covered in a foam protector at a lower level but we would like to ask that you remind your child / children that they should stay away from the scaffolding poles; they shouldn’t be swinging on them or climbing them.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Crossdale News (Summer 1, Issue 3)

Changes from September…

We have a few changes in staffing to let you know about from September:

  • After 15 years at Crossdale, Mrs Rachel Cox will be leaving the school staff. In recent years Mrs Cox has played a significant role in organising provision for children who have additional needs. In this role, she has been committed and passionate about securing the best possible outcomes for those children. Mrs Cox is keen to come back and do some occasional work at Crossdale, so it’s more of an ‘au revoir’ that a farewell! I’m sure you’ll join the staff, children, and governors in wishing her every happiness in the future.
  • Mrs Ingle and Mrs Mellor will be sharing class teacher responsibilities for our Reception class from September, working on a job share basis but overlapping on a Wednesday. This ‘Dynamic Duo’ have spent a good part of last year sharing class teacher responsibility and have worked together for several years. They will be assisted by a full-time TA who will help ensure continuity across the week.
  • Miss Georgia Dibley will be joining the team in September to teach our Year One class. Miss Dibley comes highly recommended from another school in Equals Trust, Robert Miles School. Miss Dibley will visit the school several times before the summer and we will let parents know when they can pop in to say hello.
  • Mrs Payne will continue teaching in Base 1 on a Thursday and Friday; some of her time will be spent in Year 1 and she will be teaching in Year 2 on a Friday.

Play Equipment

Please could we kindly request that before 9am and after 3:30pm, children do not use the play equipment in school.  This is for safety reasons and we appreciate your support with this.

Base 3 residential

Year 5 and 6 children will be heading off on their residential visit on Monday morning to Edale.  Information for the visit is available on the blog on the Year 5 and 6 pages.

Roof Maintenance

We will be undergoing some long overdue roof maintenance on the school over the next few months, with a planned start next Friday, 26th May.

We have accessed the money for these repairs, almost £300,000, through our membership of Equals Trust. The Trust applied directly to the DfE for funding, securing over £1 million to improve school buildings across the trust. This is just one of many benefits we are seeing since we became an academy as part of Equals Trust.

This has meant that the school car park has effectively been closed to all cars and that the staff will need to park on and around Crossdale Drive. We know that this will impact on parental parking and we kindly ask for anyone driving their child / children to school in the morning, or to collect them in the evening, to be continually thoughtful and respectful to our residents over the coming months and to park with care.  Please remember that we have an agreement with the Pear Tree Pub whereby you can park in their car park and then walk up to school to drop your child / children off / collect them.

Snacks

We encourage children to have healthy snacks for break times and this is very successful.  If your child / children attend an after-school club, please could we ask that any snacks they have to keep them going are also classed as being a ‘healthy snack’. Thank you for your continued support with this.

Lost Property

We had a large amount of lost property at the end of last term and it was hard to return to the owner as there wasn’t a clear name written onto the clothing.  Named items of clothing make it much easier to return lost items – we really value your help with this! Please take a look in lost property boxes in cloakrooms before the end of this term if your child has lost any items over the last few weeks.

Share Aware

A parent has recently spoken to us about their child’s online interactions, in the family home, with an unknown adult living elsewhere in the UK. Please read and use the information below to help support the ongoing safety work we do in school.

Share Aware, from NSPCC, gives parents all the tools they need to have regular and informed conversations with their child about staying safe online. Under 20% of parents discuss online safety regularly with their children but we want to get every family talking about their child’s life online, just as they would their day at school.

Parents can sign up to the Icebreaker email series and become an expert in their child’s online world in 6 weeks, follow our four simple steps to keeping kids safe online, watch our film ‘Safety advice from a 10 year old’ or visit Net Aware – our guide to your child’s social networks apps and games.

The internet is a great place for kids to be, being Share Aware makes it safer.

Walk to School Week

Thank you to everyone who joined in with walking to school this week, despite the wet weather! It was great to see everyone in their shoesday shoes on Tuesday – take a look at some of the photographs on the blog!  Mrs Payne is going to be totaling up the tally charts that each class have been working on this week for their walking efforts and the winning class will be announced next week – keep your eyes peeled on any updates on the blog!

Roll of honour

Maxi Scott Year 2 paddled really well to take 2nd place at last weekend’s canoe slalom race at Peterborough, gaining promotion up to the next division. He is now the youngest ranked paddler in the country - Well done, Maxi!

Treat Day

This term the children have been working very hard and have done a brilliant job at filling our 'Reach for the stars display'! As a reward we are going to have a treat day tomorrow (Friday 31st March 2017).

Children can come to school in any clothes that they would like, and after our assembly in the morning, the children will buddy up and then decide on different activities to take part in during the day.

One activity that the children may decide to take part in, is playing board games - if your child has a board game at home that they would like to bring in, please make sure it is named.

Well done to all of the children for their fantastic efforts this term!

Talent Show to raise money for Comic Relief

We had a fantastic morning at school today, watching the children perform in a talent show in aid of Comic Relief.  Well done to all of the children who put themselves forward for the auditions, I know that there were some fantastic performances in every class.

During the morning, the judges had a hard job deciding on scores for each act, but after the totals were counted, checked and verified, the top four acts were:

4th place:Charlie P, Charlie T, Joe, Alfie and Hugo from Year 3 with a drumming and singing performance.

3rd place (Joint): Bethany from Y1 sang a song and Liam from Y2 showed his talent on the drums

2nd place: Tamara (Y1) and Gabriella (Y6) with a dance / gymnastics routine

1st place: Matthew from Y6 wowed the judges with his fntastic solo guitar and singing performance.

Well done to everyone who took part, you all did a brilliant job!
