Happy Half Term!

Homework has gone out tonight in book bags, due back on Friday 10th November please -I'll remind the children nearer the time.
Fantastic efforts have been made on Doodlemaths with eight of the the top ten doodlers in the whole school coming from Year Two, so really well done everyone! A half term challenge had also been sent home today!

Thank you to everyone who offered to help with the trip, letters have gone home tonight with those who will be accompanying us. Spaces were limited and I apologise for anyone who is disappointed but please do volunteer again next time!
Have a wonderful half term and I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 31st October!

A visit from Nurse Atkinson

A visit from Nurse Atkinson
Today we were lucky enough to have Nurse Atkinson (Joel, Charlie and James' mummy) to come into school to help us learn how to be hygienic!
We used a really cool germ machine to make sure we were washing our hands properly!
Thank you Nurse Atkinson, we loved it!

High 5 Spellings

We've had a magic Monday today, the children are really beginning to settle into Year Two routines and it is lovely to see them act as such brilliant Base One role models.

High 5 spellings are now in the RIB books. We are on 'Week 3' so please help your child to practice them this week a few times ready for our spelling session on Friday.

We will also be having a handwriting week next week to launch ourselves into our new cursive 'Letter-join' handwriting scheme and the children will come home with homework folders to help them practice this at home too.

Any questions or queries, please come and see me.

Many Thanks

Mrs Westie

Bring a teddy!

What a great first week back we've had!
Lots of time spent exploring the classroom, reminding ourselves of the Crossdale Way and we have loved sharing our summer books! Thank you for all the hard work which you and the children have put into these, they're lovely.
Next week we will be starting our story writing unit all about our class teddy and I've asked the children to bring in their favourite teddy on Monday to use in our English work.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Welcome to Year Two!

Welcome to Year Two!
We have had a brilliant first day back! It has been so lovely hearing all about the children's summer adventures and this afternoon we have been painting cherry blossom trees (inspired by Van Gogh) ready for a whole school gallery.

Just to note, it's P.E with Mr Sanders tomorrow afternoon so please send in P.E kits if you haven't already done so.

Also, it is our Base One information evening next week on Wednesday at 6pm in my classroom.

I hope you have a nice evening,

Mrs Westie

A huge THANK YOU!

A huge THANK YOU!
It's up on the wall and looks beautiful!

Thank you to all of you who surprised me this morning with fabulous gifts and a big thank you to you and your children for being a great class and a great set of parents! It has been an emotional day today because it has been such a wonderful year, and one I will remember fondly forever!

Thank you all also so, so much for your kind messages and comment of thanks and appreciation over the past few days. They really do mean so much and are not taken lightly.

I hope you all have a fantastic summer wherever your travels may take you! I am off to Pembrokeshire for some time by the sea with my family but look forward to seeing you all soon!

Oh and please look carefully through those heavy bags that the children brought home tonight as there is various letters hidden in there (including your squid passwords which you'll need to pay for hot dinners next year!)

Once again many, many thanks to you all!

Scientists in action!
This past week we have been doing all about materials and investigating how they can change. On Monday we used heat to change materials and were predicting if the change could be reversed or not!

It was a bit of a tasty investigation!

A visit from GB athlete Leon Baptiste

A visit from GB athlete Leon Baptiste
Leon led the children in their sponsored activities this morning and got them jogging on the spot, doing star jumps, mountain climbers and spotty dog!

After playtime he led a very inspiring assembly where he talked about his career and how he had worked very hard for 7 years before winning any big races! His message was to never give up!

He told the children that to achieve their dreams they should believe in themselves and work hard - which they most certainly have been doing all week!

We've seen lots of great teamwork, stickability, concentration and determination this Sports week - very well done Class Pine!

YEAR ONE AND TWO OUT & ABOUT IN KEYWORTH

On Thursday 6th July, as part of this half term’s topic we are heading into the village for the day.

Our plan for the day is to leave school at 9.30am. We will be walking to ‘The Square’ where the children will undertake a shop survey and then we will then be walking to the park. The children will be given time to sketch the playground in preparation for their upcoming DT project and will also have some time to play on the equipment.

For lunch, the children will be supplied with a school pack lunch and this will be enjoyed whilst on the park area (or inside the Methodist church if the weather is not fine, or indeed too hot!)

In the afternoon we will be visiting both the Church of St. Mary Magdalene and Keyworth Methodist Church, hosted by Andy Proffitt who regularly visits us at school for assembles, which complements our work this term in R.E.

We will walk back to school in time for the usual end of day collection at 3.30pm.

If you can accompany us on the day or have any questions, please see your child’s class teacher.

Many thanks for your support.
