Mr Mate runs the London Marathon
Mr Mate
On Sunday 25th April 2010 Mr Mate will be in London competing in the Virgin London Marathon.
It will be his second attempt at running the London Marathon, as he previously completed it back in 2006.
In 2006 he recording a splendid time of 3 hours and 52 mins and raised an astonishing £2, 689 for charity.
During preparation for the event in 2010 he is not only following a running schedule that will help him to achieve a new ‘personal best’, but also he will again be running for charity.
Get Kids Going
This year my chosen charity is ‘Get Kids Going ‘ - www.getkidsgoing.com
Get Kids Going! is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people – up to the age of 26 yrs – the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport.
Get Kids Going helps promote sports for disabled children by providing them with built sports’ wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball etc. Get Kids Going! also helps and encourages British disabled children to compete by supporting them with theirsports; training, physiotherapy, travel, design and development of sports’ wheelchairs. With your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions!
Get Kids Going! also provides personalised manual wheelchairs and trikes for children to use every day; at home, at school, and to enable them to play with their friends. We believe that all disabled children and young people should receive the right equipment to get them going!
We support children with all disabilities and make sure that any equipment which is out grown is recycled to other children, so supporters’ valuable donations are never wasted.
Over 200,000 disabled children and young people in Britain need the help of Get Kids Going! They desperately want special manual wheelchairs, trikes and other mobility equipment. Also another 50,000 disabled children and youngsters need sports wheelchairs to let them compete in their chosen sport.
The cost of a sports wheelchair is about £3,000. A lightweight manual wheelchair is around £2,000 and a trike £800. All are designed individually, and perform… just like a Formula 1 Racing Car!
In support of his charity attempt Mr Mate has set up a ‘Just Giving’ Charity page at www.justgiving.com/gm8ty
which will help support all kind donations.
Work in school
As part of Mr Mate’s Marathon preparation Year 6 have been designing him a running vest, which will get printed and he will wear on the day.
Here are some examples of the children’s fantastic ideas, that will support Mr Mate along the way.
The children have tried to design a vest and also write good messages on them as well.
