Talent Show
We had a fantastic, if hot, time in the hall today as we watched School Council’s End of Year Talent Show. Each class picked a couple of acts to show off their special abilities. (Reception picked the whole class!)
We saw dancing, singing, piano playing, guitar playing, gymnastics and cocktail making.
This is Josephine’s fantastic recipe for a fruit cocktail. (You can click it for a bigger version.) The quantities were 200ml of grape juice, 200 ml of apple juice, 100 ml of orange juice and the juice of one freshly squeezed orange.
Josephine also added some apple, some grapes and a slice of orange on a cocktail stick and an umbrella!
It was delicious and very refreshing!

Crossdale Annual Survey for Parents and Carers – SURVEY NOW CLOSED
This year we will be asking all parents and carers in school to complete an online questionnaire about life at Crossdale. The aim of the survey is to try to build a clear picture of what is working well here and what we can do to make things even better.
The findings from the survey will be shared with Governors and will feed into our development plan. A whole school questionnaire of this type will now be carried out each year, allowing us to track and monitor parents’ and carers’ views and opinions about Crossdale. To access the questionnaire click on the link above to be taken to a new page where you can log in to the survey. You will then need to enter the code which was in the letter about the survey in order to start. The code you enter is unique to you and will allow us to make sure that the survey can only be completed by parents and carers of children who attend CrossdaleIf you would prefer a paper copy of the survey please pop into the school office. Please take five minutes to complete the survey. This is your chance to share your thoughts and views about our school. Your opinions about Crossdale and your child’s school experience are always valued by us and we would encourage you to pop into school whenever you have anythig you want to discuss with us.

This informal, annual event for Cancer Research is organised by parents of pupils (and ex pupils) at Crossdale Drive Primary School. Initially, in memory of Crossdale mum, Moira Kelly, who died of cancer in November 2004, over the years, it has also become an opportunity for self reflection, and to show support for others who may also be affected by cancer.
This totally inclusive event has raised over £3000 in the last five years for Cancer Research (donations on the night or at the school office). Last year, some 280 participants raised £850.

Music Assembly
Today we got to see and, more importantly, listen to the talented musicians we have at Crossdale. Mrs Grebby, one of the music teachers who visits Crossdale every week, led a fantastically interesting assembly where we found out about instruments in the woodwind family. We’ll be giving out letters next week for people to sign up for lessons for next year and lots of people have already said they are interested in starting!

Our Election Day
As the country gets ready to vote in the general election we’ve all been talking about the election and we’ve been lucky enough to get visitors from four of the political parties to come and talk to us in school. We listened to the ideas (about schools and the environment) of David Mellen (Labour), Sam Boot (Lib Dem), John Cottee (Conservative) and Richard Mallender (Green). Mr Mallender and Mr Boot are actually standing for election trying to become MPs.
Some of our Year Six children have researched the policies and views of these four parties and today they gave speeches in a special assembly to help all the voters at Crossdale make their minds up.
After the assembly each class made their way back into the hall to cast their votes in the actual polling booths that will be used for real in school tomorrow!
It was a close contest, but when the votes were counted it was discovered that the Crossdale voters had decided to back the Green Party.

Planting Week
Last week the whole school got involved in planting crops in our new poly-tunnel and allotment area. Every child in the school was involved in the planting and each class will now have the responsibility of ensuring their crop grows and thrives. We planted over 10 different crops including lettuce, beans and cucumbers. If all goes to plan we hope to have a ‘Farmers Market’ later in the year!

Safety Zone at Holme Pierrepont
Year Five and Year Six had a fantastically interesting morning at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont today. The emergency services and other groups had organised nine different workshops for our classes so we could get some advice about how to keep ourselves safe in all sorts of different situations.
The children learned about safety on the railway, near water, on buses, in the street, near electrical equipment. We also learned about some important first aid techniques we could use to help other people.

Our “New Early Years Outdoor Play Area”
You have probably noticed that there are some builders at school. They are working on a new area which is mainly for our Reception children. (The rest of the school will be able to share it as well!) Here are some photographs; we’ll add some more in the next few days as it gets closer to being finished. We are still deciding on a name for this exciting new area; if you have any great ideas we’d love to hear them.

Storytelling with Mike from Mexican Tales
We all had a great time listening to Mike from Mexican Tales and his marvellous stories from all over the world. Amongst other things, we heard the best story we have ever heard about a hairy green toe!
After the assembly, children from Year 5 and 6 worked with Mike to write and practise their own stories. In the afternoon, these brave story tellers visited the other classes to share their stupendous stories!

The Crossdale Way
On Tuesday we mixed the children into 7 new mixed-age classes and spent the day thinking about the things we need to do at school to make sure everyone is happy and everyone learns as well as they can. Each ‘class’ worked with every teacher in school on range of fun activities to help launch ‘The Crossdale Way’, a set of rules which we all try hard to follow:
At Crossdale we CARE
Choose to do the right thing and be the best you can be
Always be kind and stay safe
Respect each other and show good manners
Everyone and the world we share is special
Learning together and having fun

Teddy Bears’ Hospital
On Monday students form Nottingham Medical School came to set up a Teddy Bear’s Hospital. Children in in base 1 took their Teddy Bears along to have a check up a x-ray in the clinics! They then went on to find out about the importance of keeping fit, explored their senses, found out about body parts and explored a real-life doctors bag. The children had a super day and the Teddy Bears went home feeling fit and well!
